She has a BA(Hons) in Music, and a Masters in Music therapy, which focuses on using improvisation to interact with those who may find verbal interaction difficult for many different reasons.

Melanie began with violin and guitar at the age of eight, so has 26 years of experience to help your playing.

Melanie can teach using a variety of different methods to suit your needs and learning styles, she is adept and encourages both written and aural learning to enable you to become a well rounded musician able to not only reproduce music but understand it a little better, this helps to improve your intonation.

Melanie was originally classically trained, following the grade system, but moved on to folk in her teenage years to develop aural learning and also she found it was a good style to busk!  As a keen folk musician Melanie can also help you look at traditional music (jigs, reels etc) and will often use these to teach technique.  Learning jigs by ear is a good way of improving your intonation as it encourages you to listen to your playing.  A section of each lesson is dedicated to listening and reproducing sounds, both improvising new melodies and replicating ones given, this advances onto recognising intervals, this helps with tuning your violin and recognising the sounds it makes.

You will understand that learning music theory is a good way to improve your playing, Melanie can provide you with the resources you need to help you do this in a fun and interesting way.
